I got the results back for my portfolio review in the art department today. I was accepted. I was really shitting bricks over this as the art department at my school has a set policy of only accepting thirty percent of those who apply as they have limited class sections available for people to enroll in.
In other news, I have been eagerly following the fan translation project of Mother 3 or Earthbound 2 into English. Nintendo in its infinite wisdom decided to turn its back on all of the diehard fans that have been eagerly awaiting a true sequel to Earthbound since the one released on the old Super Nintendo System over a decade ago. Fed up with the maltreatment, some of the people over at Starmen.net have begun conducting a painstaking translation of the Mother 3 Gameboy Advance game into english to use as a patch on a rom. They have been working on it since 2006, and they are around three quarters of the way finished. I hope that Nintendo does not send them a "Cease and Desist" order for their efforts.
Despite the screaming and protesting from my parents about the matter, I got a vasectomy last week. I do not like children, never did, and I have never wanted children of my own. I have been wanting to get one for quite some time, but finding a physician that would do it on a 24 year-old with no children has proven to be difficult. It is amazing how pronatalist people are sometimes. My mother and father have been really harassing me this year about my lack of inclination to have a girlfriend and get married, as they feel that I am being "irresponsible" and that marriage is the true mark of maturity. They also wanted grandchildren which is something that I felt no inclination to give them.
Marriage as an institution is seriously flawed and obsolete. Marriage was never about "love" it started out as a political alliance between to families for the transfer of land, property, children, or status. The idea of marriage for love did not become a concept until the early twentieth century. However, people live much longer now than they did when the tradition of marriage was instituted. Before modern medicine, people were lucky if they made it to their late 20's or early 30's. Since most marriages took place in the mid-teenage years, this means that people were married for an average of fifteen or twenty years. Now, since people usually live until their late seventies or early eighties, a married couple has that much longer to get sick of each other. With over half of marriages ending in divorce it would seem that marriage is on its way out.
There is also the fact that as a species, humans could not really be said to be monogamus by nature. Few animals are. Romantic relationships since the dawn of human civilization have been rife with infidelity for both parties involved. Human males seem to be instinctually driven to spread their genes with as many partners as possible in order for their genes to maximize their success. Human females optimize their situation by seeking a male in high status to gain the benefits that it brings while mating with a physically superior male in order to improve the quality of the offspring that she produces. Our closest genetic relatives, chimpanzees demonstrate this behavior well, and based on the sociobiological evidence, this has carried over into the human species. While this is not to say that humans cannot choose monogamy, historical evidence proves that this is very difficult for many people to do. This is not to say that I am advocating promiscuity, as the risk of unwanted pregnancies exist, as well as the fact that the probabilty of catching an incurable STD such as herpes simplex is at an all time high. I digress.
Anyway, I will never be a breeder so I never have to worry about getting slapped by a court order for child support payments in the future. This also means that I will not have a potential child that will turn out to be a complete fuck-up despite everybody's best efforts. I relish being a genetic collector's item as their are never going to be any future genotypes based on me in the future, now.
